After I posted Pearl's Promise, I realized I never posted my review for Ruby's Redemption! Here it is!
Ruby’s Redemption is an exceptional story about the power of God’s love to transform a young woman’s life. As I started reading this book, I learned that Ruby was a prostitute but not by choice. Her cruel uncle lied to her dying mother that he’d take care of Ruby. Uncle Millforte forces her to work for him in his brothel. When an unlikely meeting occurs between Ruby and a minister, Henry Stratton, she sees the kindness in his eyes. Henry goes to the brothel without realizing it wasn’t where he was supposed to be for a meeting. She’s touched that he isn’t like the men who want her services. Kiernan writes the scenes in the brothel without it being graphic or disturbing but you still feel Ruby’s pain as a prostitute.
There is a lot of suspense because Henry learns that Millforte doesn’t want to lose Ruby and the money she makes for him. Henry is determined to get Ruby out of the brothel and away from Millforte’s cruelty. I loved Ruby’s inspiring journey to becoming a Christian with Henry’s guidance. Also, Henry’s Aunt Abigail is another well-written character. I felt her concerns as Henry and Ruby fell in love with each other.
I highly recommend Kiernan’s Ruby’s Redemption. It was a book I could not put down because I was so invested in the characters.

When I started reading Pearl’s Promise, I was delighted to learn more about the character Pearl Acton. She’d been in Ruby’s Redemption, Book One, in the Gems of Grace Series. It was nice to reconnect with this young woman. Pearl had been in love with Henry Stratton, the minister at her church. I’d felt sorry for her that a marriage between her and Henry hadn’t happened. Her sweet and gracious nature caught my attention so when in Book 2, her parents demand she marry for money, I sympathize greatly with her. Pearl doesn’t want to marry some man with money but wants to marry for love.
Unfortunately, her father has lost his fortune, so he arranges for Pearl to go to live with his cousins, the Maxwells. Her father wants her to marry wealthy Mr. Clarence. Pearl sees how Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell are in love and not at all like her parents’ loveless marriage. She’s afraid her arranged marriage will not be happy when she doesn’t love Mr. Clarence and he isn’t a man she wants to marry. She feels that there isn’t a choice when her father is counting on her to marry for money.
When wealthy Nicholas Dalton’s father sends him to London for the season, he’s unhappy to leave a very ill tenant. The elder Mr. Dalton is a cruel man with no feelings for his tenants. Nicolas is just the opposite with a big heart and wants to improve the conditions for the tenants. Nicholas is speechless when he sees the beautiful Pearl for the first time. His shyness continues and Nicholas has difficulty in approaching Pearl when he’s in London.
Pearl’s Promise has many things included to make you feel you’re in the regency period with the afternoon teas, a social season packed with balls and dances. Pearl’s Promise is a faith-filled story with the teachings of Christ developed very well in this romance.
