Rating: Blue Ribbon 4.5!  Ms. Craver’s NEVER THE SAME is a heartfelt story about two families whose lives will intertwine for the rest of time. I loved the realistic characters and I constantly felt as if I were right in the room with them watching everything as it evolved. It was wonderful to read a story about something that could actually take place; a tale that, with its believability, could draw me in so deeply. This book is for my keeper shelf. Thank you, Diane Craver.

“Ms. Diane Craver presents a fascinating story about a couple who have secrets needing to be revealed, a passion that needs to be explored, and an incredible ending that is not expected. The end result may be anticipated, but the myriad of circumstances which the couple encounter, together and alone, just adds to the incredibility of this couple finding each other. I heartedly recommend this book to anyone. Don’t allow the “inspirational” category to mark this off your list; there is plenty of loving interaction to hold your interest! This is definitely a keeper!”

Rating: 4 cups! “This is a wonderful inspirational tale that manages to get the message across without getting too sentimental. There is a very good romance here with elements of suspense. The characters are very real and the reader will get to know them well as the book progresses...The other characters are very well done and grow throughout the story. This one is definitely worth reading."

The Christmas of 1957
THE CHRISTMAS OF 1957

Fifty-one-year Debra Reeves Cunningham tells in the prologue how her father overcoming an incredible disability at the age of fifty-four influenced her family in a positive way. She takes us back to the night in 1957 when she was seven and had to go to the bathroom at midnight. Her father, Justin Reeves, happens to be in the kitchen, and Debby watches him from the doorway. After she witnesses his secret, Debby is shocked and saddened.

When Debby later tells him what she saw, Justin is touched by her concern and offer of help. His own mother had never cared about him. Debby’s unwavering belief in him is inspiring. When he finally accomplishes what he wanted his whole life, Justin reaches out to his family in a special way on Christmas Day. His gift to his wife, Lucille and his three daughters, Gail, Kathy, and Debby and his son, Carl, impacts them all for a lifetime.

The heartwarming novel is based on a true childhood incident in the author’s life and is set in a rural area outside of Findlay, Ohio. However, the characters and story line are fictional.

The Christmas of 1957 is a touching story for the whole family to enjoy. Once Christmas is over, warm feelings of a timeless love will remain.

Reviews for The Christmas of 1957

"A tender, uplifting, superbly written story of courage" - 5 stars! Based on a true story from the author Diane Craver's own childhood, The Christmas of 1957 is a compelling novel about a father who battles with a disability, yet overcomes it and reaches out to his family on Christmas Day, giving them a unique and special gift. A tender, uplifting, superbly written story of courage, strength, and caring, The Christmas of 1957 is highly recommended reading.
- James Cox, editor, Midwest Book Review
"It was 1957 when I saw something that I wasn't meant to see." In Diane S. Craver's new novel, this enticing opening creates strong anticipation and establishes the long line of tension throughout the story. What did the narrator see? And what effects will her discovery have? When Debra Reeves, the seven-year-old heroine, unearths the secret her beloved father has been hiding for many years, Debby is forced to confront his "disability" then find her own solution to it.
Set on a farm near Findlay, Ohio, this fictional memoir takes the reader through a troubled time in a loving family beset with problems. In addition to Debby's concern for her father, her older sister, Gail, is in love with a man Debby doesn't like. Her middle sister, Kathy, who wanted to be dancer, struggles with the physical infirmity that has crippled her every bit as much as their father's once-secret flaw limits him. Debby's brother, Carl, worries about his commitment to the army-indeed, about his entire future. Even their mother, Lucille Reeves, although devoted to her children and husband, now hopes to broaden her personal horizons. And then there's new neighbor, James Sherman, a teacher and would-be writer wracked by guilt over his own family tragedy, who clearly needs to become whole again, possibly in this tightknit group. But it is Justin Reeves himself who works to overcome the deficiency his small daughter Debby has discovered and who, with her help (and just maybe a guardian angel's), gives their family its best Christmas present ever…the true meaning of love.
This is Diane S. Craver's second book, and her heartwarming characters, her obvious spiritual faith as well as theirs, her telling details of family life, bring both tears and laughter to the reader. Based on a real-life incident, The Christmas of 1957 is a touching slice of life.
- Leigh Riker, award-winning author of Acts of Passion ( iUniverse.com), and Strapless (Red Dress Ink)
It really captures a time and place, a nostalgia for a more innocent time. The writing has the immediacy and emotional honesty of memoir - even though this work is fictionalized. Uplifting and positive. Real charm and warmth.

CELEBRATING AND CARING FOR YOUR BABY WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

If you have recently given birth to a baby with special needs or know someone who has, buy this book. Because of the short length, parents will actually have time to read CELEBRATING AND CARING FOR YOUR BABY WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. Many uplifting tips and advice are given to help parents through the early months of this stressful time.

Diane writes from the perspective of her own experience as the mother of two children with Down syndrome. With deep depression the second time, she learned how to overcome her sadness in having another child with special needs. She gives insight into what worked for her so that other parents can cope with challenges during this emotional time and in the end, will feel blessed.

Diane's topics include practical advice about the following: parenting, grieving for the child you didn't have, celebrating your baby's life, your self-esteem, fun things, and concerns about talking to others about your baby's handicap. Activities and toys used to stimulate early development that Diane found helpful in working with her daughter, Amanda, are also covered.

The book ends with a resource chapter for various disabilities and includes the following: financial organizations to assist you in caring for your child's medical needs, fun groups that are low cost, and a great listing of books to aid parents in helping their child to reach his or her full emotional and intellectual potential.

Reviews for Celebrating and Caring for Your Baby with Special Needs

After reading this book, I can honestly say Diane Craver speaks from the heart about the good and bad moments she has experienced with her family throughout her children's lives. Sharing her own story is her GREATEST gift, and Diane's strength will certainly help those of us who are struggling with mixed emotions about the birth of a child who has special needs. Diane's energy is depicted through the many creative activities listed in Chapter's Six and Eight, and yet the blessings she discusses in Chapter Nine will guide any parent into knowing they are truly blessed with the love of their child! Reading this book will make you laugh, make you cry, and will be a comfort to you when you need it most!
