Soon after this, when Amanda had just started eighth grade at St. James (they had a wonderful teacher and class for students with disabilities), she spotted Father Jerry outside as we left church. She stopped him and asked if she could be a server. Bless Father Jerry because he only hesitated for a brief moment, then gave a firm yes to her request. He told her that he would train her and to come on Thursday evening to serve.
I’m getting tears in my eyes and my throat is thick from emotion as I write this because this was a beautiful start to Amanda’s life with serving our Lord. She has served now for ten years and people comment constantly what a great server she is. Father Jerry commented once that she could serve for the Archbishop at Mass and this could continue to be her vocation. She not only serves at St. Louis Parish, but recently has started serving at St. Ann’s. I know that being a server at Mass has enriched her life. One of our greatest blessings is having our special daughter serve at Mass.
