Proposal in the Sky & Oct. Contest!

theproposal

I have a proposal from YouTube that is short and fun to watch. My novella, THE PROPOSAL, is approximately 14,000 words and sells for 99 cents. I’m sharing a blurb and reviews for it.

Jacqueline Andrews hopes her boyfriend Brad’s surprise is an engagement ring for her twenty-sixth birthday. Her best friend, Tyler Jordan, wants Jacqueline to be happy but not with Brad. Tyler regrets blowing off Jacqueline’s confession of love for him before he left for college. When he returns to their small town as a physician’s assistant, he falls in love with her. He needs to win her love back. Will his hot kisses sway her? Or is she going to marry Brad?

“I fell in love with Tyler and I had hoped that Jacqueline realized what a special guy he was.” ~~Review by Diana Coyle for Night Owl Romance Review

About THE PROPOSAL: “I enjoyed this short read mainly because I liked that the characters were quite open about their hopes and expectations. I found it refreshing to read a short romance without the usual coy flirtatiousness and manipulative scheming that is so inherent in most.” ~~Laurie for CoffeeTime Romance

It’s a beautiful day here in Cincinnati! No rain and lots of sunshine plus it’s warmer than it has been this past week. I’m happy to say that I received another review on Amazon for my book, A CHRISTMAS GIFT! I especially like the reviewer’s comment about my character Debby reminding her of the wonderful Anne of Green Gables. I loved Anne! One cold and snowy winter when we were inside a lot, we enjoyed watching the movie, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. Be sure to check out the reviewer, Laurean Brooks’ own wonderful book, JOURNEY TO FORGIVENESS and visit Laurie on her blog!

*****
By Laurean Brooks “Laurie” “Laurean Brooks” (Dukedom, TN) - A Christmas Gift (Paperback)
Debby Reeves sees something she isn’t suppose to. What did her dad shove into the cabinet drawer beneath the kitchen towels? When Debby finds out, she is puzzled. Should she tell her sisters…her mother? Can she solve the shameful secret her father is trying to conceal?

I love the way Diane Craver has captured this little girl’s personality. She knows how to get inside the head of a seven-year-old and make her bigger than life. Debby Reeves is saucy, smart, courageous, and loves her family. She is on a mission and will not give up. The little girl reminds me of “Anne” in “Anne of Green Gables.” She always has an answer for everything. I laughed out loud in several places, especially at little Debby’s thoughts about her selfish paternal grandmother.

Ms. Craver has a gift for pulling the reader into the family scenes. I felt like I knew Debby and her entire family before long. I rooted for all of them, each with their own diverse personalities.

“A Christmas Gift” would make a wonderful Christmas gift to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming story of courage, persistence, and loves close-knit, realistic family scenes.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to more by this author.

Too many leaves!

Monday, October 17th, 2011

My husband and I worked outside today. We have SO MANY leaves. I kept thinking while working on the leaves where there might be a great place to live. Trees are nice, of course, in the summer and keep the house a bit cooler in the summer, but unfortunately, this fall the leaves fell quickly before they reached any vibrant color. We had plenty of rain in the spring and most of the summer. We had expected to have a gorgeous array of fall colorful leaves. Instead we have lots of brown leaves on the ground. I thought of several places that we wouldn’t have trees to deal with, but I’m sure there would be other hassles. Nothing is ever perfect.

We also put all the patio furniture away plus the hammock, volleyball net, picnic table, swings, and benches around the parklike setting we have in the back. It was nice having a huge front yard when all six children enjoyed playing sports in the front. The backyard is nice with the pool, playhouse, barn, swings, and etc. but a lot of work for us old folks. :) Maybe someday, the economy will improve and we can sell our ten acres and house. But the weather was gorgeous and a pretty day to do our outside work.

I finished Chapter 17 of my wip so now I only have 3 chapters left on my Christian romance. I want to get it done soon so I can start querying agents. I want to get my query letter done and out this month yet. Once the holiday season starts, agents and editors probably won’t be acquiring as much from authors. Or that’s what I’ve heard.

Romance Novels Teach!

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

sarah-wendell

One of the Desert Breeze Authors shared this article on our yahoo group. It’s a fantastic article so I’m sharing a little here! I like that Sarah Wendell said romances are about the courtship. Sarah clears up some myths about the genre and she happens to be a writer and a romance blogger.

“Romances communicate that women should be the heroines of their own lives and that happy endings take work — there is no easy way to happiness. It doesn’t just show up. Romances teach that you are lovable and worthy of a happiness exactly the way you are and shouldn’t have to change drastically to please someone else.” ~~ Quoting Sarah Wendell from a USA Today article discussing romance novels… read the rest here
