Will be Empty Nesters for the Weekend!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

pool1

I will not be posting again until Wednesday, August 4th, when I interview K. Dawn Byrd about her new release, KILLING TIME. If you leave comments on any of this week’s posts or any posts thru August 13th, you will be entered to win one ebook and get to choose it from this list of outstanding 4 books - Karen Wiesner’s Retired and on the Rocks, Anne Patrick’s Fire and Ash, K.Dawn Byrd’s Killing Time, OR Evie Alexis’ The Obsessive Compulsive Romance Novelist.

As many of you know, we were blessed with 6 awesome children. Sara and Amanda were born with Down syndrome and Sara also has severe OCD. By the way, I have a book about how to cope with a baby with special needs. My faith, husband and writing got me through what was at times a bit overwhelming.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this weekend since we were married on August 2nd. We have gotten away for a weekend occasionally but it’s hard so doesn’t happen often. Two of our children are taking Sara and Amanda for the weekend so we can experience what it’s like to be empty nesters in our own home. We are going for bike rides, hiking (Amanda hates hiking), and hang out by the pool. And enjoy the quiet.

It will be good for Sara and Amanda to spend time away from us and have a change, too. So I won’t be around because I want to enjoy quality time with the love of my life!

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend, too!

Anne Patrick - Award-winning author

I’m delighted to have Anne Patrick visiting my blog today. She has over a dozen romantic suspense novels that are either published, under contract, or in the works. Anne has a lighter side in the form of an alter ego named Kinzie Monroe who writes inspirational romance. If you leave a comment on Anne’s post, you’ll be entered for my August drawing on the 13th for a chance to win Anne’s ebook! Readers, enjoy learning about Anne’s newest romantic suspense release, Fire and Ash from Desert Breeze Publishing.

The inspiration behind Fire and Ash

Who could forget the stories of those brave firemen rushing up the stairs in the World Trade Center Towers as people were fleeing for their lives? It takes a certain breed to face a fiery inferno to save a strangers life, and their actions deservedly earn them the title of heroes. There is another type of hero who serves behind the scenes, seldom recognized for the lives they save, and that is the fire investigator. They’re the men and women who shift through the ashes of a fire to determine its cause. A fire investigator is part detective, scientist, engineer, and law enforcer. Exploring the origin and cause of a fire may not be as exciting, but it’s just as challenging as coming face to face with a fiery inferno. Every fire scene teaches them something new.

The idea for my book, Fire and Ash, was first planted after watching the movie Backdraft on DVD a couple of years ago. Yeah, I know, I’m a little behind in my movie watching. Anyway, I loved Robert De Niro in the part of the fire investigator and was really intrigued by what all goes into finding the answers to why a fire started. I then had the good fortune of meeting a real life fire investigator, named Keith Tarbox, who helped me get inside the head of my main character, Sadie McGregor. He also read over the entire manuscript to make sure the fire scenes were believable and that I did my homework.

Keith shared many of his experiences with me. Talked about the long hours he worked on fire scenes. The obstacles he had to overcome, and the many miles spent in route to a scene. It was a joy getting to know him. He left me with a great appreciation for the unsung heroes out there who dedicate their lives to finding the answers of how or why a fire started, and the danger that is sometimes involved.

Fire and Ash is a ‘sweet’ inspirational romantic suspense. My main character, Sadie McGregor, is called to her hometown of Emerald Point, Missouri to investigate a suspicious fire which claimed the life of a local college student. By appearance the fire looks like the girl was just careless. What Sadie and the handsome police chief, Quinn Harrington, discover will not only affect those close to them, but will rock the entire community of Emerald Point and put Sadie’s life on the line.

Sadie’s life isn’t the only thing at stake. Struggling with the guilt of having been responsible for the fire that killed her family, when she was only seven, Sadie doesn’t feel she’s worthy of God’s love and forgiveness. Will Quinn be able to prove otherwise before it’s too late?

Fire and Ash, published by Desert Breeze Publishing, can be purchased in e-book here:

Back online to announce Blog Contest!

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I went to get on the internet early this morning and nothing. This also happened two weeks ago and a repairman had to come to our house. We also didn’t have phone service - we have a package deal so our phone is connected to the internet. Someone came out again today and he replaced the wires in several places plus outside at the pole. I hated to see him so high on the ladder and working on the connection there. Although I was a tree climber when I was young, I dislike heights now. I hope we won’t have anymore internet issues this summer.

Tom, I, Sara, and Amanda had a nice time swimming yesterday in our pool even though we missed our other children. Christina had a lot to do for summer school and etc. I’m sure April was enjoying her own pool at her new house. Emily’s living and working in Columbus. Bart and Lea have a pool in their subdivision. We went to two Open Houses before swimming. The first one is a gorgeous house but only two bedrooms on the first floor with one in the basement. We want Sara and Amanda on the first floor with us - that’s one of the reasons we want to move. The second house was a bit of a disappointment.

We do have someone looking at our house this evening so I need to hurry announce my guest authors visiting here soon and get back to cleaning. :)

Anne Patrick will be here this Wednesday to tell the inspiration behind her new release, Fire and Ash. On August 4, I’ll be interviewing K.Dawn Byrd about her new release, Killing Time. The following Wednesday, August 11th, Evie Alexis will be here to talk about her writing.

On August 13th, I’ll draw a winner in the evening. If you leave a comment on any blog posts starting with today’s thru August 13th, your name will be entered each time you post. The winner will get to choose one ebook from the following list. Karen Wiesner’s Retired and on the Rocks, Anne Patrick’s Fire and Ash, K.Dawn Byrd’s Killing Time, OR Evie Alexis’The Obsessive Compulsive Romance Novelist.

Now back to cleaning!

Denim Blue Mysteries Book l

Buying Link: Whiskey Creek Press
Or buy at Amazon in ebook format for $5.59

Are you drooling while looking at Karen Wiesner’s book cover? Isn’t the guy a hottie? Not only is Karen a wonderful writer, but she also is great at designing her own covers. When I purchased RETIRED AND ON THE ROCKS in Kindle format to read, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed and it would be money well spent because Karen is a masterful storyteller. If you like a lot of romance in your mysteries, then this is the book for you. By the way, it’s an inspirational book and faith is a part of the strong heroine’s life but it isn’t preachy.

You should also check out Karen’s Family Heirlooms series. These books are superb too. Here’s a link to her Heirlooms series: http://www.angelfire.com/stars4/kswiesner/fiction9.html

BLURB:
It’s been a month since Denim McHart hung up his private investigating career after he ended up with a bullet in his leg. The injury has forced Den to re-evaluate future goals in his career, his love-life and his spiritual life. To keep himself busy in early retirement, he’s been attempting to restore an antique table and he’s officially bored. He can’t seem to keep his mind off his investigative partner, the lovely and complicated Sylvia Price whom he’s had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with in the past. When Sylvia calls him out of the blue, he doesn’t waste time getting down to their office.

In this past month, Sylvia has been dealing with her own feelings for Den, her overwhelming guilt for the pivotal event that happened years ago and caused her mother to be mentally unstable, coinciding with her inability to forgive herself the way she knows the Lord has forgiven her.

Before the sparks can fly between Den and Sylvia in the direction he has his heart set, she says they’ve got company. Jilted bride Naomi Deva tells him that her groom—Mayor Thomas Julian—dumped her at the altar. Reluctantly, she admits he’d caught her in a compromising position with the best man only minutes before the ceremony. Naomi also reveals the reason why she’s sought them—the local police department hasn’t been able to turn up the six point one carat diamond engagement ring Thomas gave her…and the groom wants it back. Immediately.

REVIEWS OF RETIRED AND ON THE ROCKS:
4 Stars! “I do not read much Christian Romance, but, when I do, Karen Wiesner is one of my absolute favorite authors. This story will clearly show you why. This is the first mystery in a new series. The case involving an expensive ring begins and ends here. It is a stand-alone tale. The private lives of the main characters get equal time. The author does not force religion down the throat of the reader, but the characters’ beliefs certainly help each one to deal with personal troubles. I find this jewel to be a fulfilling story of trust and faith. Memorable!”

4 Stars! “In the first Denim Blues mystery, Wiesner pens both an excellent love story and mystery while bringing the Lord’s words and forgiveness into the story to help Sylvia with her healing process.” ~Cindy Himler for RT Book Reviews http://www.rtbookreviews.com
