Road Trip

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I left work Tuesday at 2 to head towards Dayton, Ohio, to pick up my daughter from college. We arrived in Detroit, Michigan at 7:30. Yesterday morning she met with different people at Wayne State University about a position she’s been offered. We spent some time looking at apartments before we came home yesterday. It’s 5 hours from where we live so it was a long haul.

INTERESTING FACT: Detroit is actually north of Canada! The only place in the United States that is north of it.

Emily graduates from University of Dayton on Sunday.

Have a great day, everyone! I’m wondering if the Louisiana scoring project is almost finished. I’ll find out soon. :) Also I think driving in terrible traffic to work this spring got me prepared for driving in Detroit during rush hour. It took me over a week to get used to driving again in heavy traffic. It bothered me more this year than it did last year when I worked in Cincinnati.

Mother Teresa

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

I think that Mother Teresa was one of the greatest women who ever lived and worked on this earth. She devoted her entire life to serving the poor and helpless. I decided to share Mother Teresa’s “Anyway.” I’m going to try and live my life according to her great insight. The last two lines are so TRUE. Here is what Mother Teresa wrote:

“Anyway”

“People are often unreasonable, illogical or self-centred. Forgive them anyway. If you are successful, you will be sure to make some false friends and some true enemies. Be successful anyway. If you are honest and frank people may cheat you. Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy over night. Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness others may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today people will often forget tomorrow. Be good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be good enough. Give the world the best you’ve got anyway. You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”

Dee’s worked on my blog and installed the newer version of Wordpress for me. I’m still trying to figure out how to do everything which is probably harder for me because I’m not a technical person. Dee’s been patient in answering all my dumb questions.

What I’m Reading…

womanofhonorcoverart1

During breaks and lunch, I’ve been reading Woman of Honor by Nicole Zoltack. I heard from the reader grapevine how wonderful this book is and everyone was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I am definitely going to buy the next book in this series. I love the characters and the story is fascinating. I thoroughly recommend this book for everyone that enjoys fantasy, romance and adventure! Now I want to get back to reading Nicole’s book! I’m almost to the end.

BLURB:
Aislinn of Bairdhe dreams of becoming a lady knight to honor the death of her fallen brother. To her mother’s horror, King Patrick grants Aislinn’s wish and she begins her long years of training.

Despite the mockery of the other pages, and the disdain of Prince Caelan who also trains to be a knight, Aislinn commits herself to her dreams and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and bravery. Through the years, Aislinn and Caelan grow from sparing classmates to good friends. They both know that someday Caelan will marry for the sake of the kingdom, but even that cannot keep them from falling in love.

The threat of war with the Speicans is a constant threat, and one that grows more frightening as she and Caelan train toward their eventual knighthood. Aislinn has committed herself to serving Arnhem, and has promised herself as King’s Champion when Caelan claims the throne. She is willing to give up everything… her childhood, her life, even her heart for Arnhem. No matter the pain it brings.

Whitney in Charge Blurb:
Whitney Benson is tired of her older sisters’ attempts to fix her up with every single male they meet. Shannon and Regan cross the line when they arrange for her to go skydiving with the simple excuse that more guys like to float in the air than women. Whitney needs to find something else to keep them busy.

When she suggests that the three of them start a family business, the fun begins in their small town. And she thought being a TV producer in New York had been exciting.

Without going skydiving, Whitney meets two eligible bachelors, Jack and Ben, who constantly battle for her affection. Which one will she choose? Both men make Whitney realize, even a heart shattered by her husband’s death, can once again be made whole.

But did she have to fall off a cliff to learn that?

Marrying Mallory Blurb:
Is Mallory Harrington jinxed because her name means luckless?

Things have gone wrong for Mallory since she was a small child. All she ever wanted was to have a complete family and live happily ever after. It appears she has it all when she marries Toby Harrington and they have a son. Unfortunately, their marriage ends when Toby has an affair with his law partner. After their divorce, Mallory doesn’t think she should ever get married again.

Mallory decides to get a surgical procedure that she’s always wanted, but meeting plastic surgeon, Doctor Seth Whitman, complicates her life. Seth realizes that having Mallory as a patient might not work. She intrigues him too much. He wants to spend more time with her, but definitely not on the operating table.

Mallory learns that sometimes faith is about accepting what can’t be changed and grabbing what God offers her. Life must go on.

Eastern European or American Indian?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I should be writing but missed posting yesterday. On my day off, Tom and I went out for a yummy breakfast at a cute restaurant with a 50’s theme. The waitresses wore poodle skirts, and we enjoyed all the neat stuff they displayed from this time period. I remember my older sister Carolyn wearing poodle skirts when she was in high school. We also looked at hot tubs and furniture. I’m hoping to get a hot tub after we build our house. We could use new furniture, too, but we just heard that lumber prices have increased a lot so won’t be getting new furniture until we see how much it costs us to build our new house. I’m worried that we won’t sell our house in this market.

Anyhow at work on Thursday a scorer asked me during a break something that I’ve been asked before, and it’s something that I have wondered at times about too. She wanted to know about my ethic background because of my cheekbones and nose. She was curious if my ancestors were from a country in Eastern Europe or if I was an American Indian. I have been asked about being a Native American Indian before but not about from a country in Eastern Europe. My mother’s relatives were mostly Dutch and my father’s were a mixture of French and English. By the way, I’m not good at many things, but I seem to have a knack for scoring. My team leader showed me the stats and I scored over 9,000 tests during this project. No one else scored this many of the 4 pointers. I think I should get a bonus. :)

I came home on Wednesday and saw a beautiful bouquet of roses and other flowers on the table. Tom had bought me the flowers. It wasn’t any special day so it meant a lot that he did. I guess romance is still alive at age 60. :)

Have a great weekend! I better get busy on writing or I won’t have anything to pitch to the HQ editor in June at Lori Foster’s event.
