Happy Halloween!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Our weather is nice today. It should go up to 67 degrees. And we get our hour back this weekend. I love having the extra hour. The only problem is it’ll get dark earlier in the evening.

Marianne Arkins has a fun and free story to read for Halloween on The Long and the Short of It site.

NEAT GIVEAWAYS:

Faith Bicknell-Brown is giving away a free professional edit up to 5,000 words, which is roughly the equivalent of two normal chapters or three shorter ones. (Find out more about Faith’s editing services and her rates at the Editing Services page on her website.) Click on her name to read about this prize and a book giveaway. You just have to email her answers to a few questions. Faith is a published author and an editor. She writes multi-genre tales, but is focusing on paranormal fiction.

I’ll be drawing a name this evening from the comments left during October, and the winner gets to choose a free download of one of my Samhain books.

I went this morning to Kroger’s to print some pictures from my digital camera. I have over 300 on my camera because I’ve never printed them. I got the camera for Christmas in 2006. I can’t believe I’m so far behind on printing and getting them in a photo album. And before I got my digital camera, I got behind in organizing those photos so have years to cover.

Amanda has a cold but I’m sure she’ll still want dress up for Halloween and go to a few friends’ houses. I told her this will be the last time since she’s in her senior year of high school.

JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN PLAYING DENNY ON GREY’S ANATOMY WITH KATHERINE HEIGL AS IZZIE

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the handsome American actor most famous for his roles as Denny Duquette on “Grey’s Anatomy” and as John Winchester on “Supernatural” and Judah Botkin on “Weeds.” I know I hated it when his character died on Grey’s. Morgan has charisma, undeniable charm, versatility and star quality as an actor. My daughters agree with me on this hottie!

On all three of these shows, his character is now dead. But not forgotten.

It’s Wednesday Already…

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Sorry I haven’t been here for a few days. On Saturday I went to University of Dayton to visit our daughter, Emily. It was Parents’ Weekend. Emily and I had a lovely day together. Sunday I took Sara and Amanda to see High School Musical 3. I especially liked this movie because the story was about the characters’ senior year and graduation. Amanda is a senior in high school so it was a movie she related to and we had a discussion about future jobs. She loves attending her school and being with her friends, so I know graduation will be difficult.

I haven’t started a new book but did finish revising my Whitney book. I’m anxiously waiting to hear about the status of my Marrying Mallory. I’m hoping I can get an agent for this book. I want to write a mystery next and have a big book I want to start writing in 2009.

If you’re a writer, Allie Boniface shared some great writing advice on her blog. She attended the NJRWA conference last weekend and from the knowledge she received from the workshops, I’d say it was very productive.

Don’t forget I’ll pick a winner on Friday for a free download of one of my Samhain books!

Will be back tomorrow with a hottie you’re going to recognize - he’s a sweetie! Have to run and get license plates for our new Honda. Our temporary one expires today - that month went by quickly.

Lovely Comments, Acceptance, & Giveaway!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

It’s a rainy day here in southwestern Ohio. The temperature is about 53 degrees. I feel like curling up and reading a book, but I think my family might want to eat this evening. :) But maybe later, I’ll get to read. I checked out Decked, a Regan Reilly mystery, from the library yesterday. I thought I’d read all her books but must have missed this one. It’s an oldie and was published in 1992.

I received a lovely email from Dru after she read my chick-lit mystery, A Fiery Secret. I’m pleased to share her comments here. “I loved A Fiery Secret. I agree with the person who said they would like a follow-up to the adventures of Catherine Michaels. I liked how she ran the investigation and was able to bring Max’s death justice. There were so many great scenes in the book and I knew there was something up with Scott. I also loved Miranda which you mentioned was modeled after Amanda. Again, what a great story.”

The Long and the Short of It accepted my short story, “An Accidental Beginning” and it will be published on November 20th! If you haven’t visited this site, they have book reviews, giveaways, free reads, author interviews, post author contests, and more.

Yesterday I saw that my women’s fiction book, Never the Same, is now available in Kindle on Amazon. A Fiery Secret has been available in Kindle for some time.

GIVEAWAY FOR OCTOBER:
At the beginning of the month, I had planned on having the “Author Week” sometime during October. I was going to use the prize given for it for my monthly blog contest. Now that I’m having it in November instead, I decided to give a free download of one of my Samhain books for the October giveaway. The winner can choose any ebook format or the Kindle version of either A Fiery Secret or Never the Same. No Greater Loss isn’t in the Kindle edition at this time. I’ll draw the winner on October 31st!

HAVE A TERRIFIC FALL WEEKEND!

Interesting…

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

We sold our 1998 Honda Civic with 221,000 miles on Tuesday night. The buyer called on Tuesday afternoon after seeing it on Craigs List, and wanted to know if he could look at the car on Wednesday morning. My husband told him someone would be here. Instead he showed up at our house at night and looked at the car. It was around 7:30 so was already dark out. I wouldn’t want to look at a car at night. He never drove it and handed the money over in cash - $100 dollar bills to be exact. My husband told him that he didn’t need to pay the total amount but could just pay a deposit to hold it. The guy wanted to just give the whole amount. Late Wednesday morning, the buyer and his wife came to get it. The title was in my name so I went with them to get it notarized at our bank.

Would you buy a car without first driving it? I still can’t believe they didn’t want to drive it before buying it. They were happy with their purchase so that’s good. The wife said her car was wrecked.

I have a parent/teacher conference this afternoon with Amanda’s teacher. I want to jot down a few things before I attend. We need to make decisions about what Amanda will do following high school graduation in the spring. I’m sure Amanda will be able to get a job eventually, but important decisions need to be made before this occurs. She can attend a vocational school or a transitional class in our county. As I’ve said before, she was born with Down syndrome but is very bright within the limitations she’s been given. She’s quite amazing.

I better get off here and get busy on author questions for the upcoming interviews!
