I haven’t driven our new Honda yet. I wanted to get home yesterday before Amanda’s bus, so Tom stayed to finish the paperwork on it. It isn’t as big as our Sienna van we had, but we didn’t want to get anything bigger.

Amanda or I will draw the winner at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time TODAY! If you’ve left a comment this month or do today, your name will be entered. The winner gets to choose an ebook copy of one of my three Samhain books. Good luck to everyone!

Job Titles:
Actor, TV host, Producer, Writer, Film marketer

Family
Brothers: James Kinnear and Steve Kinnear.
Daughter: Audrey Mae Kinnear. Born June 13, 2006
Daughter: Lily Kathryn Kinnear. Born Sept. 12, 2003
Father: Edward Kinnear. Worked for the US State Department

Greg Kinnear is a handsome actor with a flair for deadpan satire.

The youngest of three sons born to a diplomat, Kinnear grew up in various places around the world, including Beirut, Lebanon and Athens, Greece. After attending the University of Arizona, the Indiana-born Kinnear got his start marketing low-budget films before switching gears and stepping in front of the camera. I won’t list all the movies Kinnear has been in, but the ones I have seen. Here are the ones I enjoyed: “Sabina”, “As Good As It Gets”, “Stuck on You”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, and the recent release, “Baby Mama”.

Kinnear stars in “Flash of Genius” which releases on October 3rd. The movie is based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns who had a long battle with the U.S. automobile industry.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GREG KINNEAR FOR BEING DIANE’S HOTTIE OF THE WEEK!

Busy Day - We closed the pool this morning. We got it cleaned and closed before the wind started blowing dry leaves into it again. We desperately need rain in our area. I felt a twinge of sadness because we might not be living here next swimming season. The pool was wonderful for family summer celebrations. This afternoon we bought a 2008 red CR-V Honda.

Happy Friday!

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Yesterday we met our daughter, Christina, at Olive Garden for lunch to celebrate her birthday. My husband and I also took the time to look at new vehicles. Our Honda Civic has over 200,000 miles on it so I’m hoping soon we will have something new to drive. Amanda had speech after school so it was a busy day. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the pool closed and it was windy. We haven’t had rain for a long time so many leaves blew into the pool. We are definitely going to get it closed today.

Tomorrow we are going to celebrate three September birthdays at Christina’s condo. I’m going to make “Three Cheese Jalapeño Spread” that is popular in our family. I gave this recipe in December so if you’re interested in making it, click here.

I wrote the query letter for “Marrying Mallory” and took Allie’s advice to proofread the query letter 20 times - well, actually I didn’t count but it seems like I revised and read it A LOT. Allie has a great post on writing a query letter. Also another good spot online with guidelines on writing query letters is Charlotte Dillon’s site. I haven’t had time to write the synopsis but will get to it sometime soon, and then next week will query editors. I’m very excited about this book.

I have a hottie I will post early next week. You will definitely recognize him - he’s one of my favorite actors. He’s an amazing and talented man and of course, attractive! I don’t have his bio done or I’d post about him today.

HAVE A TERRIFIC WEEKEND! :)

“Silent Spring”, Last Swim & September Birthdays!

silent-spring.jpg

I read Rachel Carson’s book, Silent Spring, in the seventies while attending Ohio State University. I did a reading from it for an oral interpretation class. Her book was published in 1962, but is still relevant forty-six years later. Carson, a marine biologist who died two years after publication of the book, wrote “Silent Spring” to make people aware of the dangers of synthetic pesticides. She explained how the pesticides have the ability to not only kill their intended targets, but they also move right up the food chain, eventually reaching the human population.

Most of the book deals with the effects of chemical spraying on wildlife in the environment. Separate chapters deal with birds, insects, fish, and plant life. Carson writes how farmers sprayed chemicals to their land in the 1950’s and 1960’s and exceeded the recommended application levels.

Silent Spring” is required reading for anyone concerned about the environment. Carson’s book led to significant changes in environmental law. I have to mention that her beautiful writing and passionate voice on environmental issues touched a nerve in me. Her perseverance changed the world.

Our pool water never gets as warm in the summer even when it’s very hot because of the location. It doesn’t get the morning sun. With the lower temperatures at night recently, it hasn’t been warm enough for swimming. We decided to use the heater on Sunday and swim for the last time before closing it. I’m hoping to find time to close it tomorrow. April came over to have a last swim with us. Even with the heater on, it was still only 77 degrees. Very refreshing!

I meant to post yesterday, then again early this morning, but just a lot going on right now. We have two September birthdays this week, so went shopping for gifts. Emily will be 21 tomorrow but Wednesday is a full day of classes for her. Christina’s birthday is on Thursday. We are going to Christina’s place on Saturday to celebrate our three birthdays! My sister-in-law, Mary, also had a birthday this month. I’m glad it’s not my birthday month - I can wait to get older. :)

Do any of you have a September birthday? It seems like a lot of people are born in September.

Reminder: Blog Contest ends September 30th! The winner gets to choose a free download of one of my Samhain books.
