“Hottie of the Week”

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I finished Chapter Seven of my Mallory book! Woohoo! Although I picked Elizabeth from my name contest for the main character’s name, I changed my mind. After I started the book I realized Elizabeth didn’t fit. I chose one of my names for the main character, but I am using Elizabeth for one of Mallory’s friends. I’m hoping to write a series and have the second book about Elizabeth.

We have two used cars to look at this weekend so keep your fingers crossed that one of them will be right for our daughter.

Do you recognize my hottie of the week? He’s Adam Rodriguez.
Amanda adores the role he plays as Eric Delko on “CSI Miami.” I don’t know why she likes this show but she does. During the school year I make her go to bed and she tapes it to watch later. For some reason, she also likes Horatio played by David Caruso.

ADAM’S BIO:

Birth Place: Yonkers, NY
Date of Birth: 04/02/1975

Aspired to become a pro baseball player but was derailed by a back injury.
Worked as a bellman and a construction worker while attending community college.
Appeared in Jennifer Lopez’s 1999 “If You Had My Love” video.
Had never watched the original CSI until he auditioned for the CSI: Miami spin-off.

Adam Rodriguez Relationships:
Janet Rodriguez - Mother
Ramon Rodriguez - Father
Vanessa Rodriguez - Sister

College:
Attended SUNY Rockland Community College, Suffern, NY

CONGRATULATIONS TO ADAM RODRIGUEZ FOR BEING DIANE’S HOTTIE OF THE WEEK!

Just read this and very true:

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle…author unknown

Have a beautiful weekend!

Road Trip

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Emily and I are going on our second trip this week to Dayton which is about a 90 minute trip there. She took her laptop in to get it repaired. She’s had trouble with it from the beginning. She had to buy it from the college. It cost enough plus it’s a Tangent. I like my Acer laptop and don’t have any problems with it. We also need to check out some more apartments for her housing for junior year.

I will post a hottie soon. I just don’t have time right now since we need to leave soon.

NEWS FLASH - Ladies, I just heard that George Clooney is single again. :) He’s 47 and is available after a breakup with his latest girlfriend. She’s the one he dated for a year. I can’t remember for sure, but they might have been engaged.

Memorial Day Celebration!

memorial-day-2008.bmp

We opened the pool on Saturday but it wasn’t warm enough to go swimming on Memorial Day. I made homemade ice cream which was something I did with my siblings while growing up in Findlay, Ohio. One big difference though - we had the crank type of freezer and had so much fun turning it. Really. I remember my dad or brother would come to crank it at the end because it got so hard to turn the handle. My mother said we had to turn it as long as we could so the ice cream would be done and not too soft. We have an electric freezer which is nice but sometimes I miss the days of doing manual labor in making our holiday dessert. Tom grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and brats. The meat was delicious. Lea (Bart’s fiancée) brought special cookies from Australia and they were so yummy. Sometime she’ll blog here about Australia and her recent visit. I would love to go to Australia but don’t see it happening so will be great to hear what it’s like from Lea!

Emily isn’t in the picture because unfortunately, she had to work at the movie theatre. We all missed her. That’s the bad thing about her job - they never close.

We watched some home movies after we talked and ate. My mom was on one tape so that was sad. I miss her and my dad. My sister Lois lives in Findlay and is always great about putting wreaths by their gravestones around Memorial Day. I remember how we used to go with Mom to do this for her parents’ and grandparents’ graves during May.

What did you do for Memorial Day? Cookouts, traveling, or swimming?

Talking about food makes me think of this quiz I took from Marianne’s blog (I do love salty foods, too):

You Are a Sweet Person

When it comes to snacks, you’re more likely to grab some candy than heat up a pizza.

There’s a good chance you’re female (women prefer sweet snacks)…
Or at least, you prefer to be in the company of women.

Your tastes are simple and predictable. You are young at heart.
You tend to crave food you can just grab and eat.

“Winner of Contest”

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Thank you to everyone for the great comments this week and for taking the time to stop by Debra Parmley’s blog. I drew Sarita Leone’s name for the Make-Believe Mondays contest. Sarita wins a $5 Gift Certificate to Samhain Publishing. Congratulations Sarita!

Jane Richardson mentioned this great article on deep point of view. It’s by Barbara Miller, who writes for Harlequin, Pocket Books and Cerridwen. The article is posted HERE, at Jenyfer Matthew’s blog, ‘Just Jenyfer.’ You might want to take a look. I enjoyed it and learned a few things.

QUOTE FOR TODAY:

We wildly underestimate the power of the tiniest personal touch of kindness.

Tom and I are going to open our pool today. We started moving the water bags but will have to finish later today. It was too chilly to open it earlier. Today is rainy and cool out but it will be 80 degrees on Sunday and 85 on Monday. We are having a Craver picnic and hopefully swim on Monday to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend!

Have an awesome holiday weekend!

The fourth Indiana Jones movie, “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” opens at some theaters midnight Wednesday. Since it is going to have a special showing at our Showcase Cinema at midnight, my daughter Emily is working until closing.

My son Bart and I want to see this new Indiana Jones movie. We both loved watching the earlier ones.

Here is some fun movie trivia about Indiana Jones: (answers are posted in the comments section)

1. Which actor was originally cast as Indiana Jones?

A. Sean Connery
B. Pierce Brosnan
C. Tom Selleck
D. Nick Nolte

2. Why did producer George Lucas initially reject Harrison Ford for the Indy role?

A. Ford had been in other Lucas movies and Lucas didn’t want to be too closely identified with him.
B. Ford had turned down a role in a previous Lucas movie.
C. Lucas thought Ford “too pretty.”
D. Ford had broken an engagement with Lucas’ sister.

3. Why did Lucas name the character “Indiana”?

A. After the home state of director Steven Spielberg’s wife, actress Amy Irving.
B. After Lucas’ dog
C. The Indiana Hoosiers had just won the NCAA basketball tournament and Lucas wanted to name his hero “for a winner.”
D. As homage to Billy Benedict’s “Indiana” character in the 1964 Glenn Ford movie “Dear Heart”

4. What’s Indy’s full name?

A. Gary Indiana Jones
B. John William Boyd Jones III
C. Henry Walton Jones Jr.
D. Napoleon Nelson Jones.

5. How many actors have played Indy?

A. 1
B. 2
C. 4
D. 5

6. Why did some production members have qualms about Sean Connery playing Indy’s dad in “The Last Crusade”?

A. They feared his presence in an adventure film would overly recall his portrayals of James Bond.
B. A continuity problem existed because Indy had mentioned in “Raiders” that his father was dead.
C. Connery’s asking price was higher than Ford’s, which producers feared would create animosity.
D. Connery is only 12 years older than Ford.

7. The American Film Institute named Indiana Jones the No. 2 movie hero of all time. Who was No. 1? (This is a tough one or was for me anyhow.)

A. James Bond
B. Rocky Balboa in the “Rocky” movies
C. Rick Blaine in “Casablanca”
D. Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird”
